A family of five who were missing in dense forest in WA's south west have been found.

Police say a man, a woman, and three children aged under six, were four-wheel driving yesterday in state forest near Collie when they became lost.

The woman used a mobile phone low on battery to call for help.

Police, the Department of Environment and Conservation and SES volunteers failed to find the Dalyellup family last night.

A fixed wing plane joined the search this morning.

Police in Collie say the family were spotted in Wellington state forest by the DEC plane just before 9:00 am and were led out of the forest by search crews.

Acting Sergeant Greg Taylor says the family had been without food and water for a night.

"They were met on the highway with some food that was arranged for them and the children and water," he said.

"Just to make sure that they were all good with food and water because they didn't have anything overnight, they were very thirsty."
